The intent is to provide public access to information which will help individuals and local communities assess their current wastewater infrastructure, plan for future capacity and adopt cost effective solutions and management strategies. Sound, wise land use decisions combined with cost effective, sustainable development and appropriate wastewater infrastructure is the path to protection and conservation of our unique northern Michigan environment.

WATER TO WASTE 2006: Onsite Wastewater publishes this education publication, throughout our service area, as a magazine insert in regional and local newspapers and also at local public libraries and Health Departments. A low resolution version of 2006 pages is available on this web site together with accompanying references and additional resource material.

In conjunction with Benzonia and Lake Township and Benzie-Leelanau District Health Department, Onsite Wastewater, (formerly NWMOWTF), is facilitating a community-wide project, under the Strategic Water Quality Initiative Fund of MDEQ, designed to provide individual and community options for wastewater systems within Benzonia and Lake Townships Crystal Lake and Platte Lake Watersheds.


Onsite Wastewater ( Formerly Northwest Michigan Onsite Wastewater Task Force) is a regional education, research and information clearinghouse not-for-profit organization serving northwest Michigan. Comprising representatives from a wide range of governmental, wastewater management and environmental groups - the goal of the Task Force is to coordinate information on the ever increasing options for waste water management and groundwater protection.

We document current wastewater practises. We provide education, dissemination and promotion of information on the practical application of emerging, innovative and current technologies and small community options for financing and management.
